![]() ![]() ![]() It's fair to say that the greatest influence on my music has been my onling relationship with my Father in heaven. So, as you can see, each album comes from a different place, and represents a little chapter of life. influenced by travels and adventures had with my family. Finally, A Delicate Joy is celebration of life. Both Adoration and Revelation are worship albums, representing a five year period of my live spent exploring both traditional hymns and contemporary praise music. Overcome was a tribute to my father and this faith, and an outpouring of emotion after losing him to cancer. Sweet Dreams and Starlight, is about a Father's love for his children, reflecting my own experiences as a father and learning how that love transforms, transcends and overcomes. Postcards from Germany is a musical account of my travels in Europe and O Come Emmanuel is perhaps my most intellectual pursuit - an album done for the pure sake of making something completely new and different - a Christmas album like no other. The Vigil represents a deep, spiritual quest, from a time when I was testing and proving my faith. The Last Waking Moment is based on a dream experience of such an intense nature that it changed lives outside the dream. While the Trees Sleep is highly poetic, reflecting a poetic time - just out of college, searching for meaning and growing up into adulthood. Thus, the music reflects my youth - it's dramatic, bold, and experimental. The Tower, my first solo piano album, marks a period of transformation between my college 'rock band' days and my 'solo pianist' days. And while Surrounding is a solid album, it is going to be really interesting as to what the future holds for this up and coming pianist. When it comes right down to it, the biggest influence on my music is simply 'living.' In fact, as I look back on my collection of albums, each one seems fairly representative of a particular period of my life. But considering the very bold marketing move of renaming herself the Rogue Pianist this is certainly not the last we have heard from Kimberly StarKey. The album Surrounding closes with the reflective “Be Glad It Happened” on a very thoughtful note. Meanwhile the embellishments of the mystical title track bookends “Over” perfectly. This is a perfect segue into the seductive rhythms of “Over” that will teasingly want you to listen to it over and over. Fast forward to the startling “Coronation” that musically builds into a majestic crescendo only to slow to a subtle end. While Surrounding continues to focus on the piano pleasures of StarKey, this time around she does not hesitate to use sound that only further embellishes her music. In fact the album opens with the gorgeous rhythmic “Capsuled Morning”. ![]() She has also surrendered some of the improvisational spirit embracing a little more structure and embellishments to her compositions. Fast forward to 2015 and Surrounding has StarKey partially surrendering the producer chair to Jack Kleen. ![]() The latter was more obvious on the opening track “Beyond The Darkness” but the album also included some beautiful songs such as “Zinnwaldite Sonatina”. It featured twelve stripped down self composed and produced piano songs and performances. Kimberly’s first full length album dates back to 2013 when she released Dream. However take note that Kimberly StarKey was also mentioned as a peer, in that her last full length album Surrounding keys in on some star qualities that will bode well with this up and coming pianist. Pianist Kimberly StarKey was introduced by way of her musician friend and peer Jennifer Thomas courtesy of her appearance on the title track of Thomas’s album The Fire Within. ![]()
